Depression Rates Have Nearly Doubled Since 2015

A recent survey from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) shows new data indicating the rates of depression in the United States are increasing. This survey looked at people ages 12 and older and found that more than 1 in 8 reported being depressed in recent years. It’s a number that has almost doubled in the last decade.

That same survey shows it’s twice as bad for tween and teen girls, as more than 1 in 4 have reported that they have been depressed.

Clinical and family psychologist, Dr. Jennifer Hartstein of Hartstein Psychological Services, joins NBC News Now’s Mental Health Check with more on this topic. She discusses why we may be seeing these higher depression rates and who is at the highest risk of being depressed right now.
